Burnham-On-Sea tap dancers join nationwide world record attempt

-

A group of 25 tap dancers from Burnham-On-Sea joined in a nationwide bid to break a world record on Sunday (November 18th).

The group, aged from seven to over 70, took part in a nationwide tapathon, with the aim of setting a new record for the most tappers dancing the same routine at the same time in multiple venues across the UK.

The event in Burnham was held at dance studio DanceFit Somerset on The Westmans Trading Estate in Love Lane, under the guidance of national organisation The Performers Project which oversaw the thousands taking part nationwide.

Victoria Roberts, from DanceFit, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This is the second year that we have taken part and, as well as raising money for Children In Need, we are hoping to have broken the world record for the most tappers dancing the same routine.”

“Unfortunately, last year there were not quite enough to break the record so we are really hoping to have done it this year!”

Children and adults were sponsored for taking part and refreshments were also sold in aid of Children In Need. Victoria added: “Everyone was absolutely fantastic! We haven’t had all the sponsor money in yet but we have already raised over £300.”

“It’s great being able to raise money for a good cause whilst doing something that you love – everyone really enjoyed learning the routine, which was set to Olly Murs’ ‘Dance With Me Tonight’.”

It will be a couple of weeks before the group hears whether the combined number of participants across the UK has beaten the world record.
