The parent of a Berrow Primary School pupil has become the latest person in the Burnham-On-Sea area to be affected by Swine Flu, it emerged on Friday (July 10th).
The father has been struck with a suspected case of the bug, and his child is not attending the school as a precaution.
In a letter to parents on Friday, the school’s headteacher, Heather Hector, said: “A parent of one of our children has been diagnosed as suffering from suspected Swine Flu.”
“He is being treated and is recovering well. His child has not attended school since the symptoms developed.”
“Following the guidelines set by the Dorset and Somerset Health Protection Unit, the school will remain open.”
She added: “Children with symptoms of a flu-like illness should stay away from school until they are completely well or advised they can return by a medical professional.”
Schools across Somerset are currently being told to only close if there is a staff shortage as a result of the spread of the illness.
This is the third case of Swine Flu in the Burnham area during the past week. The other cases were reported on Tuesday at Highbridge’s St John’s School and on Wednesday at King Alfred School.
There are now more than 9,700 confirmed cases of Swine Flu in the UK and 400 lives have been claimed by the virus across the world.
