NHS officials quashed rumours on Friday (May 1st) that a resident in Burnham-On-Sea is suffering from suspected Swine Flu.
Comments on Burnham’s online discussion forums had raised fears that a pupil at a local school had been isolated with the contagious bug.
However, Paul Courtney, Communications Manager for NHS Somerset, told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Friday evening: “I have looked into this and can confirm at this time that there are no suspected cases of Swine Flu in the Burnham or Highbridge area.”
The Health Protection Agency said on Friday evening that there were now ten confirmed cases across the UK.
A total of 642 possible cases are also being investigated in the UK, while the World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Friday that there are now over 300 confirmed cases of the virus across the globe in 14 countries. In Mexico, 168 deaths have been linked to the bug.
