Burnham-On-Sea’s Academy Swim Team has celebrated its second birthday this week and was delighted to learn that the Amateur Swimming Association’s National have granted the club a coveted ‘swim21 status’.
Jon Keating, ASA Head of Club Development, said: “I would like to congratulate Burnham-On-Sea Swim Academy on their swim21 accreditation. It’s a great achievement and shows that the Academy are committed to providing great swimming experiences and high quality provision for all their members.”
swim21 accreditation is the ASA’s recognised kitemark for the development of effective, ethical and sustainable affiliated clubs.
The opportunity to gain swim21 accreditation is available to all clubs, across any aquatic discipline, regardless of size and activity delivered. swim21 is about creating the best possible swimming experience for all and raising the quality of aquatics provision across all areas.
swim21 club also offers national recognition that clubs are providing a quality service for all members, which is recognised by Sport England.
Sara Cox Conklin, Chairman of the Academy Swim Team, pictured, said: “I would like to congratulate and thank all of its members, supporters and parents who have helped to achieve this fantastic award in under two years!”
“The swim21 accreditation has acknowledged the policies and procedures the committee have put in place to ensure good governance.”
“The effort our parents, volunteers and officials have put in to help create a sustainable club, and has highlighted the quality of instruction & the training environment our coaches have created to ensure every swimmer has the opportunity to achieve their personal goals and reach their potential.”
“The timing of this award is fantastic and sets us up nicely for an exciting year ahead. This weekend sees the start of the 2015/16 Competitive Swim Season, with 27 of our swimmers in action at the Somerset County Development meet at Millfield, followed by the first round of the Arena National Swimming League, being held in Horfield Bristol, Saturday 10th. This event will see the Academy Swim Team go up against the well-established teams of Weymouth, West Dorset, Wells & Soundwell, and should be a very exciting gala for our swimmers!”
If you are interested in swimming, The Academy Swim Team currently has five squads training at the Burnham-On-Sea Swim & Sports Academy and welcome new swimmers to come and try out. Those who are not quite at the level of competitive swimming can enrol into the UK ASA award-winning Swim School where they will receive some of the best instruction in the country – as confirmed by the ASA!
