Visitors to Highbridge’s Apex Wildlife Park now have a new animal-themed place to take the weight off their feet.
Two wooden, swan-shaped seats have been introduced besides the park’s main car parking area and they were formally unveiled at a special ceremony on Thursday afternoon (July 31st).
“One seat has been purchased by County Councillor Rosemarie Parsons from her grants budget and the other has been funded by Sedgemoor District Council,” Joyce Beard, Chairman of the Friends of Apex Park Improvements Group, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“We wanted a new seating area that would double up as a children’s play area near the main car park and had these unique seats designed for us with a soft plastic surface around them,” she added. “We’re all delighted with the end result.”
Joyce, a keen poet, has also written a rhyme about the seats which will be on display at the park in coming days.
It reads: “Proudly seated on a bed of blue, Wooden swans one and two, Gaze in wonder towards the pond, The trees and bushes far beyond, Where feathered swans and birds galore, Descend to swim along the shore, Where children gather with their gifts, Of crumbs of bread-perhaps some crisps, The seagulls swoop upon the food, They gather in an angry brood, The children frightened move away, And mum says “come another day, Now lets go and have a swing, And let the gulls go on there wing.”
