An injured swan that was rescued from a Burnham-On-Sea lake after swallowing a discarded fishing hook and line has been released after being given the ‘all-clear’ by vets and carers.
Volunteers from Secret World Wildlife Rescue and BARB Search & Rescue teamed up on Good Friday to retrieve the stricken swan after it was seen struggling on he water at Lakeside holiday park in Burnham, as we reported here.
Secret World’s wildlife expert Graeme Thompson was taken out onto the lake by BARB’s boat crew to retrieve the swan and the bird was then taken away for treatment.
Graeme told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Sunday: “The fishing line and attached lead weights were removed by Quantock Vets.”
“After a week’s care at Secret World, the swan has gone back to her mate on the lake. Reunions like this are always very touching.”
“We are very grateful to BARB for all their help in this rescue.”
