A Burnham-On-Sea police woman has been named the top PCSO in Somerset.
Police Community Support Officer Susan Venn-Adams, right, has been named the district winner in the Neighbourhood Policing Awards.
The first round of judging took place in August, when a panel of judges representing the Constabulary and Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner sifted through more than 500 nominations.
One resident, Julie Anne Ford, who proposed Sue, said: “Sue was a tower of strength throughout our ordeal, we believe she went way beyond the call of duty and became our shoulder to cry on and our friend when the worst was happening.”
The district winners were picked by a panel which included Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens, Chief Constable Nick Gargan, The Bristol Post Deputy Editor Rob Stokes and from sponsors BT Mike Parfitt.
The overall winners for Avon and Somerset in each category will be announced at a special awards dinner on October 24th at Cadbury House Hotel, Congresbury.
Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens said: “Comments such as ‘this officer has built a big bridge between local young people and the police’ are great endorsements amongst the hundreds of glowing statements the local people made in their nominations. I want to congratulate all the winners.”
Chief Constable Nick Gargan added: “The standard of nominations this year made the judging process really tough. From reading the citations, it’s clear that the winners mean so much to their communities. In addition to being a uniform presence on the street, they are very much part of the communities that they serve.”
