Coastguards requested the launch of a Burnham-On-Sea lifeboat on Monday afternoon (August 8th) after the town’s jetty attendant spotted a fallen surfer in difficulty in the sea.
The attendant recognised the danger the surfer was in, with an outgoing tide, and dialled 999.
Fortunately, the strong onshore winds assisted the surfer, and he was eventually able to return safely to the beach by himself. The Staines Whitfield lifeboat reached the beach and was stood down a few moments later.
Burnham Lifeboat Operations Manager Ricky Holmes told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The jetty attendant acted appropriately, and should be thanked for his conscientious attitude.”
