Two local support groups based in Burnham-On-Sea look set to lose their support workers due to government spending cuts.
Both the ‘The Way4ward’ and ‘Sunflower Clubs’ – which are based at Burnham’s BAY Centre – are peer support groups for people with mental health issues and provide a lifeline to vulnerable adults by helping to stop isolation.
But the group’s spokeswoman, Tracy Ridgeway, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “These cuts aren’t just affecting us, they’re affecting day services throughout Somerset.”
“One in four people in the UK has a mental health problem at some point in their life, which makes it crucial to have the right mental health support in place.”
“We are looking to find some way to fight for our mental health day services and are considering a number of options.”
Town councillor Alan Miller has this week visited the groups and pledged his support to fight their cause.
