The night skies over Burnham-On-Sea were illuminated with a rare ‘supermoon’ overnight.
The astronomical event is occurring this week, with the full moon at its closest point to Earth for several decades.
The moon orbits our planet in an oval shape so sometimes it comes closer to us than at other times, making it appear 30 per cent brighter and 14 per cent bigger.
These were the scenes in Burnham-On-Sea’s Marine Cove gardens last night, where the pond’s cherub fountain was illuminated by moonlight through a light mist.
The supermoon was at its biggest and brightest for 70 years on Monday. The astronomical event will not be as clear again until November 25, 2034.
