Burnham-On-Sea Police have issued an appeal for witnesses after a ‘substantial sum’ of cash was stolen in a burglary at a café in Berrow.

Burglars gained entry to the Sundowner Café in Coast Road and stole a safe containing cash.

Police spokesman Wayne Baker told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were called to reports of an overnight break-in at a café/restaurant in a holiday park in Coast Road in Berrow, between Saturday night and Sunday morning (1st-2nd September).”

“Entry was forced to the premises and a safe was taken. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Burnham Police, quoting 5218196581.”

Owner Dave Chesney told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This has come as a shock to us and is a dampner on what was a great season otherwise.”

“A substantial sum was taken and we have updated our security to prevent this reoccurring.”
