A dozen sackfuls of waste were collected by volunteers from the Friends of Burnham-On-Sea Beach during a summer beach clean held on Saturday (July 28th).

The group cleaned the south beach between Burnham Sailing Club and The Pavilion and also took away litter along the banks of the River Brue.

Organiser Mark Hollidge told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “In spite of the threat of bnad weather, a resolute band of 16 volunteers devoted their time to clearing the beach and estuary of unsightly and sometimes dangerous litter and debris.”

“One group were delegated to clear the beach from the sailing club to the pier. Amongst other things, they found a lot of discarded fast food items – especially wooden and plastic forks used for take away food.”

“It would be a blessing to all if these items could be safely disposed of in the waste bins along The Esplanade. A total of a dozen large waste bags were filled altogether.”

The next Burnham Beach clean takes place on Sunday September 16th between 2pm and 4 pm.
