Staff at a Burnham-On-Sea charity shop are celebrating this week after a £300 musical instrument that was stolen in a daylight robbery last month was recovered by an eagle-eyed volunteer.
Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported here that mean thieves had stolen a saxophone worth £300 from Sue Ryder Care in Burnham High Street.
Shop Manageress Helen Roberts told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “£300 is a lot to lose for us, so our volunteers have been keeping an eye on local second-hand shops to see if the saxophone gets traded in.”
“I’m delighted to say that one of our eagle-eyed shop volunteers, Chris Hiett-Powell, spotted the instrument with its distinctive markings at a shop in Weston. We immediately tipped off the police who have recovered it and are due to return it to us soon.”
She added: “It’s a happy ending to an upsetting story. Quite why someone would have targeted our charity shop in this way is beyond us.”
“Finding the saxophone was like a needle in a haystack – we are so lucky to have such dedicated volunteers to go out searching. A big thank you goes to Chris.”
Sgt Ian Kennett from Burnham Police confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com that the instrument had been recovered and that inquiries are underway to locate the seller.
