Burnham-On-Sea’s recently-opened Subway store has been granted a new premises licence so that it can open until 3am at weekends – despite a petition signed by 16 residents objecting to the proposal.
Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported earlier this month that Mike Bond, the owner of the Burnham franchise, had applied to Sedgemoor District Council to request the store be able to stay open on Fridays and Saturdays until 3am, and until midnight from Sunday to Thursday.
Members of the district council’s licensing panel considered the application at their latest meeting and have given the plans the go-ahead, subject to several conditions.
Sedgemoor Licensing Officer Tony Baker told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The application was granted subject to three conditions. Firstly, the store must install and use CCTV to satisfy local police. Secondly, suitable waste bins must be installed and emptied regularly and, thirdly, new signs must be installed requesting customers leave quietly at night to avoid disturbing nearby residents.”
Mike Bond welcomed the decision and told Burnham-On-Sea.com the store hopes to introduce the new opening times from Easter on a trial basis over the tourist season.
He added: “We will comply with the council’s conditions and also do everything we can to avoid customers disturbing local residents.”
Subway opened in Burnham on January 21st, more than a year after its search first started to find suitable premises in the town centre. The store has been very busy since opening.
