New safety warning as stranded VW Golf is rescued from Brean beach mud

-

A car stranded in mud on Brean beach was recovered by a crew from Burnham-On-Sea’s BARB Search & Rescue on Bank Holiday Monday.

Brean’s beach warden raised the alarm just before 8pm when the VW Golf GTI became stuck, as pictured here.

“The driver was on holiday and had driven too far out when the car’s wheels sank into the soft sand and mud, trapping it,” said a spokesman for BARB Search & Rescue.

“BARB’s crews safely applied a winch to the vehicle, cleared the area of onlookers, and then recovered it up the beach.”

”The motorist was very grateful for our help and gave a donation towards BARB’s work.”

”We warn motorists to keep their vehicles on the hard sand at the top of the beach, check the high tide times, and speak to the beach warden if you have any questions or concerns. Call the Coastguard on 999 if anyone is in difficulty.”

It is one of several recent incidents where vehicles have got stuck on local beaches. Last week, we reported here that two cars had become stranded on one evening at Brean.
