Burnham-On-Sea braced for 70mph wind gusts from Storm Eleanor

-

The Burnham-On-Sea area could experience wind gusts of up to 80mph later this evening (Tuesday) and during Wednesday, the Met Office has warned as Storm Eleanor heads into the region.

The fifth named storm of the season will bring a “very windy” spell of weather to the UK, say forecasters.

A yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office, predicting gales with gusts of 60mph to 70mph and a chance of gusts of up to 80mph.

The Environment Agency has warned that strong winds and high tides could bring a risk of coastal flooding this week, with spray being blown over sea walls.

Carol Holt, the Environment Agency’s flood duty manager, said: “We urge people to stay safe on the coast – take extreme care on coastal paths and promenades, and don’t put yourself in unnecessary danger trying to take ‘storm selfies’.”
