Log cabin’s roof was blown off at Brean during Thursday’s storms

-

A Brean resident is counting the cost of Thursday’s storms after the roof of her log cabin was blown several hundred metres away, causing damage to the building and its contents.

As pictured here, the 75mph winds which battered the Burnham-On-Sea area took off the roof, leaving it two gardens away.

Joan Stockwell told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Much of the furniture and electrical items inside were ruined – they were full of sand and water. A crockery set was also smashed when a cupboard on the wall was ripped out.”

“The conditions were very bad when it happened between noon and 1pm. The wind brought the tide in to the top of the beach and one could hardly stand up against it.”

“I phoned my son to come home – luckily he wasn’t far away at the time. He hastily turned off the electricity to the cabin.”

“In all, it was a total mess and a complete right-off. We don’t yet know how much it will cost to repair.”

The powerful storm is being blamed for thousands of pounds of damage throughout the Burnham area, with trees uprooted, fences brought down, lighting columns blown over, and scores of illuminations along the town’s seafront damaged.
