Heavy rain and gale-force winds swept through the Burnham-On-Sea area on Sunday (April 29th), causing road closures and damage.
Stoddens Lane was one of several roads closed in Burnham after trees were blown down by gusts of up to 65mph.
A tree came down on top of a caravan at Brean, badly damaging its metal structure, as pictured here.
A huge fir tree came down in Apex Park across a footpath, as pictured above, but fortunately no walkers were in the area at the time.
Another tree fell onto a block of garages in Highbridge, as pictured below, and Red Road in Berrow was also partially closed by debris.
Numerous fences and signs were also blown down in Burnham, Highbridge, Brent Knoll and Brean.
Burnham’s fire crews were called to deal with an overhead line in a dangerous condition at Mark, near Highbridge, and they were also called to deal with wind-damaged canopies at petrol stations in Burnham and Lympsham – more here.
The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for the region, with further bad weather forecast for the next couple of days, including the risk of flooding.
The storm led to Burnham Triathlon’s cycling stage being cancelled, although the event still went ahead with just a run and swim.
