Clean-up begins after Storm Imogen leaves damage in Burnham area

-

A clean-up operation is underway in the Burnham-On-Sea area after Storm Imogen brought high winds and heavy rain on Monday (February 8th).

The powerful storm – which saw 70mph gusts of wind in Burnham – left damage across the area, with trees brought down and fences damaged.

The gales also led to the high tides being even higher than forecast in the Bristol Channel, with waves crashing against Burnham’s sea wall, sending spray over the seafront – although there was no flooding.

Many gardeners are facing clean-up work today. One of those affected is Sandra King in Berrow, whose long stretch of fence, pictured, was blown down by the high winds on Monday.

The Met Office says Tuesday will be a cold and windy day with further local gales possible. The Burnham area will see a mixture of scattered heavy showers and sunny spells with the showers becoming less frequent later. Maximum temperatures will be 9°C but it will feel cooler in the chilly breeze.

Several trees came down in the high winds – and on the seafront the sign below was brought down outside Burnham Holiday Village.

Several trees came down in the high winds with several at Berrow and Brean being reported by motorists.

More fences were damaged along Burnham’s Love Lane, as pictured here.

Heavy rain has left pitches at Burnham-On-Sea’s BASC Ground under water, forcing Burnham Rugby Club’s games to be postponed at the weekend.

But the high winds were welcomed at Brean by these kite buggy enthusiasts who took full advantage of the onshore gusts.
