Strong onshore winds from Storm Eleanor left a trail of damage in Burnham-On-Sea.
Two yellow marker poles on the town’s jetty were damaged by the force of the sea water, with one twisted in the storm and the other bent over.
Sedgemoor District Council’s spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We also saw several beach warning signs damaged in the storm, which will be replaced once the weather calms down.”
“Sadly, the carcass of a dead cow was also washed up on Berrow beach on Wednesday, which we removed.”
It comes after 70mph winds coincided with a high tide, leaving big waves to crash onto the sea wall, with plumes of spray blowing onto The Esplanade, as we reported here.
Several metal gratings along Burnham’s seafront pavement were also damaged after being forced upwards by the pressure of the sea water, splitting the tarmac surface around them.
Meanwhile, a Hinkley Point marker buoy washed up on Burnham-On-Sea beach was collected by its owner on Wednesday afternoon, as below.
