A clean-up operation was underway at Burnham Sailing Club on Wednesday (March 31st) after gale-forced winds and high tides left a trail of damage.
The wooden walkway leading onto the pontoons was broken, as pictured above, and several boats slipped their moorings in the River Brue, leaving them teetering on the nearby river banks, as pictured right.
But Sailing Club Commodore Ken Sowden told Burnham-On-Sea.com the club had got off lightly. “We had a force 8 gale combined with the highest tide of the year – they were exceptional conditions.”
“Considering this, we were lucky to see minimal damage. Several boats drifted from their moorings and had to be towed to safety, and the access walkway was damaged by the debris in the water. It could have been a lot worse.”
