Burnham-On-Sea concert aims to raise cash for fight against people trafficking

-

A fundraising music event will be held in Burnham-On-Sea this Sunday (June 3rd) to raise cash for a global campaign to halt people trafficking.

The nine-hour music event is being held at Burnham’s Pier Tavern in Pier Street in aid of ‘Stop The Traffik’, a global movement to prevent the sale of people and to protect the trafficked and prosecute traffickers.

Local bands and acts confirmed include On Lone (minus 2 sharks), Eastertown, Tri-Sexual Winkers, Nick Elswood, Sun Dog Day (featuring Joy Russell and Andy Lawrence), Darren Hodge (a talented young guitarist), Mr Mike & Mr Tim (Mike is from Kastrow and Tim from Tri-Sexuals), Steve Plant and Guest (Steve formally from Renegade Flight fame and now with Birmingham band Rockabilly “54”) and Tom Quinton (a local poet with radical musings).

Organiser Mandy Starks told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I am a tutor with Somerset Skills & Learning and came up with the idea of holding this event after teaching about Human Rights and coming across Stop The Traffik.”

“It inspired me to hold a fundraiser, with a particular emphasis on the dark side of chocolate, where children are trafficked to Ivory Coast Cocoa Plantations. Most of us like chocolate but people should be informed that big chocolate companies are still using such plantations that exploit young children. I also hope to raise awareness of sex trafficking, which is a global problem.”

Sunday’s fundraiser will be held at the Pier Tavern from 2pm until late, with entry costing £5 on the door.
