Burnham-On-Sea’s rescue hovercraft and Coastguards were called out on Saturday afternoon (December 3rd) amid concern for a dog walker and a stranded pet.
The Cocker Spaniel had become stuck in deep mud on Stolford beach, between Hinkley Point and Steart.
Watchet Coastguards asked for the help of BARB’s rescue hovercraft due to the location of the pet in the mud at low tide.
“The Cocker Spaniel – called Oakley – had run off and got stuck but fortunately he got out safely, and the teams were stood down,” said a BARB spokesman.
“There was concern that the dog owner may put themselves in danger by venturing out into the mud to try and recover the animal.”
“BARB is always on-call and available to help when there is concern that someone may be in difficulty or at risk along our coastline. Always call 999 and ask for the Coastguard if you have concerns.”
