Burnham-On-Sea police probe ‘deliberate’ vehicle blaze

-

Burnham-On-Sea police are investigating a suspected arson attack in the town after fire crews were called out during the early hours of Sunday morning (February 24th) to tackle a deliberate vehicle blaze.

Two fire engines from Burnham were called to Stoddens Road at 1.39am after several 999 calls were made by concerned residents reporting a people carrier on fire.

“On arrival at the scene the crews found the people carrier well alight,” a fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“They extinguished the fire with two hose reel jets, and the cause was believed to be deliberate.”

If you have any information about this incident, contact Burnham police via the usual Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.

The burnt out wreck of the people carrier was still in place on Sunday morning.

The interior of the vehicle was completely destroyed by the fire.

The heat from the fire also damaged the road surface around the vehicle.

Further along Stoddens Road, a sign at the entrance to Burnham’s BASC ground was also set alight in a second incident that police are investigating. It is believed that the two cases may be linked.
