A busy Burnham-On-Sea road has temporarily shut to all traffic for ten days from today (Monday, January 30th) while long-awaited safety improvements are made.
Stoddens Road is closing to allow the county council’s highways department to make a number of safety changes to the sharp bend near the entrance to the town’s BASC sports ground.
Somerset County Council spokeswoman Anna Newman told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: “The work will involve installing rock-filled cages to create a verge area and also provide road edge support. New hazard marker posts will also be installed to warn of a ditch hazard.”
Residents in Stoddens Road have been calling for improved safety measures at the site, as we first reported last year, following an accident in which a car careered off the road in February, one of several accidents.
