Somerset County Council has this week said it has no plans to install a crash barrier at this accident blackspot in Burnham-On-Sea despite uproar from local residents.
Burnham-On-Sea.com reported last week that residents living near the Stoddens Road bend are angry that two weeks of roadworks at the site have left it more prone to accidents than before.
Although the road surface and bank next to the rhyne running alongside the bend have been improved, residents such as Peter Little and Jonathan Chambers say a vital crash barrier is needed to boost safety.
However, a spokeswoman for Somerset County Council told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Tuesday: “We are looking at improving the safety through Stoddens Road with signs and markings but have no plans to put in a metal barrier.”
“The works that have just been carried out there were highways maintenance – road edge support and strengthening works.”
Residents are vowing to continue to step up pressure for changes, with the backing of several town councillors.
