Safety of busy Burnham-On-Sea road back in spotlight after crash

-

The safety of Stoddens Road in Burnham-On-Sea was back in the spotlight on Friday afternoon (July 8th) following a car accident.

The driver of this vehicle suffered minor injuries after losing control of his vehicle and slamming through a fence.

Police were called to the scene, near the entrance to Balmoral Drive, at 3.15pm when a shocked resident reported the Ford Fiesta had crashed.

“There was a loud bang and I looked outside to see the car had crashed through our fence, leaving a lot of damage,” the owner of the property told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“There was a strong smell of petrol, but the man inside got out with a few scratches.”

The resident, who asked to remain anonymous, added: “This is a dangerous stretch of road that is very busy in the summer. It’s used like a rat run.”

“I was pleased to hear last week that some safety improvements are being made, but more needs to be done.”

Heavy rain created slippery road conditions on Friday afternoon, but it was not immediately clear whether this was a cause of the accident.
