The safety of a busy road in Burnham-On-Sea was back in the spotlight on Saturday (August 2nd) following a crash.
The driver of a Renault lost control of her vehicle and smashed into a wall, as pictured, on the sharp bend of Stoddens Road near the junction of Rectory Road at around 9am.
Saturday’s crash is the latest in a series of accidents in recent years at the same location.
An eyewitness told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A woman was driving from the eastern direction towards Berrow Road when she lost control on the bend and hit the wall.”
“The road was presumably greasy and wet after the long dry spell and recent rain. Fortunately, there were not believed to be any injuries.”
Burnham town councillor Phil Harvey, who has previously aired concerns about safety at the bend, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I have family living on this bend with young children and I worry about their safety. I know there is an improvement scheme which has been approved, but I am keen to know when it will happen.”
A £20,000 scheme to introduce a new traffic calming scheme on the bend was approved earlier this year and the work is scheduled to begin this autumn, says Somerset County Council.
