Long-awaited safety improvements are to be made to an accident blackspot in Burnham-On-Sea following a series of car crashes.
Stoddens Road will be closed from January 30th for ten days to allow the county council to make a number of changes to the sharp bend near the entrance to the town’s BASC sports ground.
Somerset County Council spokeswoman Anna Newman told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: “The work will involve installing rock-filled cages to create a verge area and also provide road edge support. New hazard marker posts will also be installed to warn of a ditch hazard.”
Residents in Stoddens Road have been calling for improved safety measures at the site, as Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported last year following an accident in which a car careered off the road in February (pictured below), one of several accidents.
Crashes have also occurred in the area in August 2010 and December 2010 and a motorcyclist also suffered minor injuries when he lost control of his machine.
