Motorist arrested after Burnham-On-Sea road accident

-

A motorist was arrested for drink driving and vehicle theft after this accident closed a busy Burnham-On-Sea road early on Sunday morning (August 22nd).

Police temporarily closed Stoddens Road after a black Ford Fiesta careered off the roadway into a ditch at 5.40am near the entrance to the town’s BASC sports ground.

Police spokeswoman Cath Foster confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com that a 22-year old man from Highbridge had appeared in court today (Monday) charged with drink driving, driving without insurance or tax, plus theft of a motor vehicle and the burglary of a property.

The badly damaged vehicle was lifted out of the ditch by a vehicle rescue service mid-morning, allowing the road to re-open. An ambulance was called to the scene but neither of the two people inside suffered serious injuries.

Officers asked anyone who saw the incident to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
