Eighty swimmers will dash into the sea at the start of Burnham-On-Sea’s annual Stert Island Swim today (Sunday, September 4th).
The unique 2,400m race will start earlier than normal at 11.30am in time for the high tide.
The participants will swim from Burnham’s each to Stert Island and back in front of crowds of spectators lining The Esplanade.
Organiser Sara Dykes from West Country Triathletes told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Everything is in place for another good event. We have had a few last late entries to bring it up to the full entry of swimmers. We’re just hoping for good weather.”
The event is being supported by the Town Council, BARB, the RNLI, Natural England, Taunton Canoe Club and St John Ambulance Service.
West Country Tri-Athletes took over the organisation of the annual summer event in 2008 after Sedgemoor District Council said it could no longer afford to run it.
