Brave swimmers wanting to take part in Burnham-On-Sea’s annual Stert Island Swim can now sign up to take part in the event.
The entry period for the popular summer event has begun – and entry forms are available through Burnham-On-Sea.com at the bottom of this page.
Up to eighty swimmers take part in the unique 2,400m race from Burnham beach to Stert Island and back – although last year’s event was cancelled due to stormy weather. The 2008 event will take place on Sunday July 27th at 1.30pm.
Burnham-On-Sea.com reported in February how West Country Tri-Athletes had agreed to take over the popular summer event after Sedgemoor District Council said it could no longer afford to run it.
Organiser Sara Hudghton of West Country Triathletes told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Our preparations are going really well. We’ve already had a good response with 30 places taken and lots of interest.”
“Participants should be over 18 years old and confident in their ability in open water. It usually takes between 23 and 60 minutes to complete the course.”
The closing date for entries, which cost £10 per person, is Monday 14th July and none will be accepted on the day. The event is supported by Burnham and Highbridge Town Council, BARB, the RNLI, Natural England, Taunton Canoe Club and Wessex Ambulance Service.
Entry forms are available via the link below, plus Burnham-On-Sea Swimming Pool and Tourist Information Centre.
