Queen’s New Year Honour for Environment Agency leader from Mark

-

A team leader at the Environment Agency who lives near Burnham-on-Sea is among those recognised in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours.

Stephen Stamp, the Agency’s Operations Team Leader, lives in the village of Mark, and is to receive a British Empire Medal (BEM) for his contribution to the environment and flood risk management.

Stephen, right, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I was extremely delighted to have been nominated to receive the BEM award for my contribution to the environment and flood risk management.”

“I was born and bred in the Somerset Levels and I have thoroughly enjoyed the chance to make a difference to the environment that I both work and live in.”

“After 15 years of experience we had never seen any like the events of the winter floods of 2014. With rainfall and tidal records being the highest on record everything I had learnt over these years was stretched to the limit.”

“I would hope not to see these extraordinary conditions again. Although I have been nominated for the medal I work as part of a team who also played a major part in everything we have achieved.”
