Stand-up comedy and selling on eBay are among more than a dozen new training courses being launched in Burnham-On-Sea this autumn.
Somerset Skills and Learning, based in Burnham’s Princess Street, has unveiled an innovative programme of adult education classes for local people to try something new.
The new Stand-up Comedy course will be led by Edinburgh Fringe Festival judge Tim O’Connor, pictured right.
“Participants will gain valuable insights and ideas about developing their own comedy routine,” said Ade Bowen, Marketing Manager for Somerset Skills & Learning.
“Everyone attending will then have the opportunity to try out their acts at a series of new comedian evenings. The first one will be at the Bridgwater Arts Centre in February.”
Other courses available in Burnham and Bridgwater include drawing in a range of media, watercolour, selling on eBay, bookkeeping, computing, digital cameras, pilates, breadmaking, flower arranging, web building, and sugarcraft.
“Getting involved in a community education class can be a great antidote to the autumn blues and can give you something fresh and new to do while the weather turns cold,” added Ade.
“We are proud to continue to offer our adult education courses which enrich people’s lives. Whether someone gains more confidence, meeting new friends or improves their health and wellbeing, it is all worthwhile.”
Last year over 9,000 learners got involved in at least one class in the county, many of whom return year after year, but over 4,000 of them were new to adult education. The team of tutors cater for all levels of ability and will provide a supportive in a friendly learning environment that is very different to school.
