Work to demolish a familiar public building in Burnham-On-Sea has begun this week after its owners recently won permission to turn it into a block of 14 flats.
Burnham-On-Sea.com reported in December how Sedgemoor District Council had approved the proposals by Raglan Homes to demolish St Peter’s Hall, located opposite Burnham’s Catholic Church, in Highbridge Road.
The building is being carefully demolished so that parts of the building can be preserved and re-used on other structures of a similar age.
While town councillors had raised concerns about the height of the three-storey development and its ‘out-of-character’ appearance with surrounding properties, they were keen to see something done about the property, which has been prone to vandalism.
Raglan Homes returned with an updated scheme and this met with the approval of Sedgemoor’s planners. The new development, pictured below, is due to be fully completed by this autumn.
