A group of pupils from Burnham-On-Sea’s St Joseph’s School are celebrating this week after being crowned county champions!
The 23 Year 5 and 6 boys and girls from St Joseph’s travelled to Yeovil College on Tuesday (28th January) to compete in the Sports Hall Athletics County Finals.
Having won the Bridgwater and District competition back in December, the children were selected to represent the area and compete against the best schools in Somerset.
After a hard-fought competition involving an array of running, throwing and jumping events, the team eventually went on to win and were crowned county champions.
P.E. co-ordinator Mark Fisher said: “Beating off local competition from ten other schools in the Bridgwater area was a huge result for us, but to go on and win the county finals as well is a magnificent achievement and is all down to the hard work and determination of the children concerned.”
Each child was given a brand new tracksuit top to wear on the day thanks to sponsorship from Burnham’s local boilerman Rob and Worcester Bosch.
