A successful craft fair was held on Saturday (September 30th) to raise funds for a Highbridge church’s £3,000 fundraising appeal to replace a stained glass window.
Hundreds of pounds was raised during Saturday’s fair, which was attended by a stream of visitors who included the Mayor and Mayoress.
One of the large 160-year-old windows in the east wing of St John’s Church is at a risk of collapsing and needs to be repaired at an estimated cost of £3,000.
The fundraising has already been boosted by a fish and chip supper and a three-day summer flower show alongside other events.
Rev Sharon Crossman who is the church’s vicar, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s a lovely old window that displays the story of the crucifixion and resurrection but over time the glass has started to buckle and get out of shape.”
“As time goes by there’s a risk of it breaking and collapsing, damaging the glass above it, so we’d really like to repair it.”
“We therefore need to raise £3,000 to get the delicate work done to reset it, repair it and adding new metal supports while retaining the original 160 year-old glass.”
