A local teenager received a top award when Highbridge and Burnham St John Cadets held their annual presentation night this week.
Burnham and Highbridge’s Mayor and Mayoress, Martin and Arlene Cox, were the special guests for the evening.
A Grand Prior Award – the highest award a Cadet can achieve – was given to Chris Marsh, pictured right.
The 15 year-old, who attends King Alfred School, has been working towards it for five years.
He has taken courses and passed assessments in 24 different subjects, including camping, radio communications, casualty care, leadership skills, accident prevention and cookery in addition to keeping his first aid skills up-to-date.
Chris received his award from Pat Comer, Dame of the Order of St John.
“Everyone at Highbridge Cadets is very proud of Chris and his achievement. He is a real credit to the division,” a spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
Seven new cadets were also enrolled on the night and several certificates were handed out for First Aid and various other subjects. The Mayor presented community service awards to Gabriel Whyte (50 hours), Holly Mackman (200 hours), Hannah Dowell (400 hours) and Kathryn Jacobs (500 hours).
