Highbridge and Burnham St John cadets through to national finals

-

The first aid team from the Highbridge and Burnham-On-Sea’s St John Cadets Division are celebrating after winning the South West regional first aid competition, held in Devon on Saturday (May 8th).

The trio – Lucy Westlake, Rhiannon Parsons and Hannah Dowell – competed against teams from across the South West and won by a clear margin.

They will now go forward to represent the South West during the National Finals in London during July.

Saturday’s event was held at the Conference Centre in Buckfast Abbey and involved first aid scenarios for the girls to treat as a team, a pair and as individuals.

“They treated choking, an open fracture, hyperventilation, a leg wound and fractured collar bone injuries,” Sarah Westlake, Divisional Superintendent of Highbridge and Burnham St John Cadets, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“As well as being overall winners, the girls won each section of the team test, while Rhiannon and Hannah won the pairs and Lucy won the individual award.”

“This was an excellent result for all concerned, and represents a lot of hard work and dedication.”

Sarah said the girls have been training twice a week since January and thanked everyone who has been involved in helping them, especially their trainer, Colin Rawlinson.

Also, the division had a team in the quiz section, who did well to be placed third. The Quiz team was Martin Hewlett, Thomas Fincham, James Nash and Shawna Whitehouse.
