More than 100 youngsters compete in St John Ambulance competition

More than 100 youngsters from across Somerset gathered in Highbridge on Saturday to compete in a St John Ambulance competition.

The children, aged between 5 and 16, gathered for the first round of the St John Ambulance Cadets and Badgers First Aid and Caring Competition which tests what they have learnt in their training.

Charlotte Aldred and Lucy Westlake were overall winners while Bethany Aylevard, Siobhan Russ and Zoe Mackman were the team test winnersNine Badger teams, aged 5-10, and ten Cadet groups, aged 10-16, took part in the annual event at the Highbridge St John HQ. They presented with trophies and certificates at the end of the afternoon.

Burnham and Highbridge’s Charlotte Aldred and Lucy Westlake were overall winners while Bethany Aylevard, Siobhan Russ and Zoe Mackman were the team test winners. They are pictured on the right.

Margaret Sweet, St John County Commissioner, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The winners will now go forward to the next round of the competiton in March, which is followed by a county competition a few weeks later and a South West regional run-off in May.”
