Highbridge and Burnham St John youngsters in first aid competition

-

Members of Highbridge and Burnham-On-Sea St John Ambulance Badger Sett were celebrating on Saturday (July 15th) after doing well in the national finals of a St John Ambulance First Aid competiton.

Kathryn Jacobs, 8, Hannah Dowell, 9, and Nathan Gibbs, 8, (pictured) travelled to Croydon to compete in the event, where they had to bandage up a ‘casualty’ in a mock accident set-up.

“The casualty had a nasty cut on her leg and a fractured wrist – and the teams had to correctly give her treatment,” said Julia Gibson, Badger Leader.

The Highbridge team came a very creditable 10th overall, and Julia said she was “very proud” of them. She added: “A big thank you also has to go to Debi Jacobs, who trained the three children. I would also like to thank the parents of the children, cadet Charlotte Aldred, who was our ‘practise patient’ and Assistant Leader Erica Murphy, for giving up their Firday evenings every week to help.”

It was the first time in the group’s history that it has made the national finals of the competition.
