Highbridge’s King Alfred Sports Centre shuts after flooding damage

-

Highbridge’s King Alfred Sports Centre has been temporarily shut due to flooding damage following a torrential rain storm earlier this week.

Spokeswoman Gail Livingstone from operator 1610 told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The centre has been temporarily closed due to flooding following recent heavy downpours of rain.”

“An extensive review to assess the damage to the roof and interior of the building is now underway.”

“Members of King Alfred Sports Centre will be able to use any 1610 leisure centre including Trinity Sports and Leisure and Robert Blake and Elmwood Leisure Centres in Bridgwater, as alternative venues while repairs are carried out.”

She added: “1610 is doing all it can to minimise the inconvenience to customers, group exercise classes will be held on site at King Alfred School from Monday August 11th.”

We reported here earlier this week how Burnham-On-Sea had been hit by torrential rain on Tuesday, leading to flooding of several homes and businesses.
