King Alfred School’s Sports Leadership Academy has been hailed a success following a number of activities over the past few weeks.
A group of Burnham and Highbridge students from Years 7 and 8 were recently nominated by their PE teachers to undertake training to prepare them for leadership activities.
Once completed, they then had have had opportunities to lead during lesson time and in extra-curricular activities.
They helped with the school’s recent ‘chance to shine’ cricket event in which Year 5 and 6 students from local primary schools visited King Alfred School for a day of cricket challenges.
The young leaders helped with their batting, bowling and fielding skills and at the end of the day held a tournament.
The sports leaders also helped Churchfield Primary School’s recent sports days, which were held at King Alfred School and well supported.
The youngsters have been recording the hours they have committed to the activities and those that have completed five hours have received a bronze certificate, whistle and lanyard. They need to complete 10 hours to achieve their silver award and 20 hours for gold status.
Spokesman Steve Ladd told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “They have really enjoyed the activities and a big ‘well done’ goes to those that have got involved in the new Sports Leadership Academy.”
