‘Speedway in the community’ scheme to continue at Burnham in 2007

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s speedway team, The Somerset Rebels, have this week announced that its successful ‘Speedway In The Community’ scheme is to continue during 2007.

The brainchild of Somerset’s Marketing Manager, Paul Oughton, the initiative saw a local community group not only attend a match at the Oak Tree Arena on the outskirts of Burnham each week during the 2006 season courtesy of the event’s sponsor, building merchants Bradfords, but also have a personally guided tour of the pits and meet the riders in the process.

“The scheme was a fantastic success, especially given it was in its first year,” Mr Oughton told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “Over the course of the season, some 500 people benefited from Bradfords’ generosity, the vast majority of these attending a speedway meeting for the first time, hopefully a number of these will become long term speedway fans.”

Any local community group which wants to apply to take part in the 2007 Speedway In The Community Scheme can obtain details from Paul Oughton at marketing-somersetspeedway@hotmail.co.uk. When your group visits the track, take some photos of your day and send them to Burnham-On-Sea.com.
