New Burnham-On-Sea speedwatch group seeks volunteers

-

A new speedwatch group could soon be set up along a busy Burnham-On-Sea road if volunteers can be found.

Police are seeking volunteers from the Berrow Road area who are interested in being part of the new group to help reduce speeding along the busy route.

“Community Speedwatch gives local people the ability to get actively involved in road safety,” Burnham PCSO Eliot Green told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Community Speedwatch is a partnership between residents, the Police and Town Council, with an aim of tackling the problem of speeding motorists, therefore improving the quality of life for local residents.”

He added: “A speedwatch group consists of local residents, who are willing to volunteer a small amount of time each week to monitor speeds with speed detection equipment.”

Motorists who are seen speeding by the team firstly receive a warning letter. Persistent offenders receive a second warning letter and, on a third occasion, offenders can expect further action by police.

Any Berrow Road resident interested in joining the group should email Eliot at Burnham-On-Sea Police Station here.
