Open meeting to be held to discuss crackdown on seafront ‘boy racers’

An open meeting is to be held to debate how to tackle the problem of speeding motorists along Burnham-On-Sea seafront, pictured above.

Police officers, local businesses and councillors will attend the special forum on Friday December 16th to discuss ways forward.

The event has been called amid mounting concern from residents at the southern end of the Esplanade, pictured above, regarding vehicles being driven at high speeds.

Signs like the one pictured here could be introduced along Burnham seafrontThey say the problem is particularly acute on the stretch of road between The Sailing Club and Somerfield supermarket.

Burnham-On-Sea Mayor Eric Gill told Monday’s town council meeting: “Many people are very concerned about the mis-use of vehicles along the seafront which is why we need to gather together to find some progress.”

He added that “the most favoured route forward is to introduce tougher speeding restrictions,” although options including extra police patrols and the introduction of new signs like the one above will be debated.

The meeting will be held in the council chambers at Jaycroft Road at 10am. All are welcome, wit the public welcome as observers.
