Speed camera near Burnham-On-Sea removed after deliberate fire

-

A speed camera near Burnham-On-Sea was removed on Wednesday (March 12th) after being deliberately set on fire earlier in the week.

Fire crews from Burnham were sent to the camera in the village of Rooksbridge on the A38 on Sunday evening (March 9th).

“One pump from Burnham attended at 11.38pm,” fire spokesman Paul Slavin told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“They quickly extinguished a fire at the base of the structure and police also logged the incident.”

Burnham police are asking anyone with information to contact them via the normal Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.

Meanwhile, a mobile speed camera has been in operation along the busy road this week, ensuring that speed restrictions continue to be adhered to.

All that marks the spot of the camera itself is a charred area of grass and a traffic cone, as pictured here.

The camera has been targeted several times before when it has been set alight.
