Concerns have been raised about the future of Highbridge’s post office this week following the sudden closure of the Spar shop in which it is based.
The premises in Church Street – pictured – has closed, but the lottery terminal and post office counter are still open for business despite shelves around them being empty, as pictured on the right.
A spokeswoman at the shop told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Tuesday that the post office would remain open while the owners of the premises try to find a new retailer to take over the shop.
However, there are already fears that if no new owner can be found – particularly in the light of fierce competition from Highbridge’s recently-opened One Stop Shop and forthcoming Asda store – that the post office will move or even close.
