Plans for a brand new £60,000 play park will go on show to the public for the first time in Highbridge on Monday (December 17th).
Sedgemoor District Council has commissioned building firm Halcrow to prepare a design for the new children’s play area, which will replace the current 20-year old facilities at Southwell Gardens next to the playing fields behind the St John Ambulance HQ.
Pam Lyes (right) from Highbridge War Memorial Trust Hall, which owns the land, says the proposals are very welcome.
“The current equipment has been in place for over 20 years and definitely needs replacing, so we are very pleased to see this scheme.”
Pam added: “It’s taken two years of discussions to get this stage, so we are very pleased that the plans are now being unveiled. This play area is ideal for many parents because, unlike Apex Park, shops, shelter and toilet facilities are all nearby.”
The new play area is being funded by property developers’ mandatory community contributions to offset the impact of local housing development.
The new modern play area will have a seaside adventure theme and will include balancing, swinging, climbing, sliding, spinning and other equipment.
Monday’s consultation event will be held from 3pm -6.30pm in Highbridge War Memorial Trust Hall, Southwell House, off Church Street.
A representative from the Halcrow design team will be on hand to answer questions and discuss the plans plus gather feedback.
Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported here in March that Sedgemoor had been in talks with Highbridge War Memorial Trust, regarding the new play area.
