Burnham-On-Sea fundraiser completes incredible 100-mile challenge

-

A Burnham-On-Sea fundraiser has completed an incredible 100-mile fitness challenge in aid of a local charity.

Sonny Topham, 27, a personal trainer, took on the challenge of walking and running ten circuits of a 10-mile route around Burnham, Highbridge and Brent Knoll during Saturday (July 28th) for Children’s Hospice South West.

He was cheered off by supporters and friends on the seafront at 8.30am on Saturday and finished it in an impressive time of 21 hours, two minutes and 47 seconds.

He completed a total of 171,272 steps and burned 15,769 calories, raising over £1,500 for charity.

Sonny walked up and down Brean Down 100 times in a day in a previous challenge last year, but says this was considerably more difficult.

Speaking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, he said: “It’s been an awesome challenge – the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. It was ten times harder than the Brean Down challenge, but it was so worth it.”

“I couldn’t have done it without the support of so many other people who joined me during the challenge, doing numerous distances to acompany me from 10-45 miles. I was never on my own – even through the night when I never hadless than six people with me.”

“Richard Curtis of Cardea Massage and Sonia at the Bay View were fantastic – it has been unbelievable.”

He has been following a gruelling training regime in readiness for the 100-mile walking and running challenge.

As shown on the map below, each of the ten loops of the course took him through Highbridge, Brent Knoll, Berrow and Burnham-On-Sea.

“One of my constant goals in life is to positively help as many people as I can. I love doing challenges that show there are no limits. They are only in your mind,” he adds.

“The money kindly donated will help the hospice provide care for children with life-limiting conditions and their whole family across the South West.”

“The care they offer ranges from respite and short breaks, to emergency care, palliative care and end of life care – a really good cause.”

Richard Curtis of Cardea Massage was on hand to support Sonny during the challenge by giving him a massage after every 10 mile loop.
